THE DOLPHINS &
WHALES know more than we do. . .

Ah
yes, those splendid
shepherds of the sea that have existed as sentient beings for
over 30 million years.
Yes, that's right. After millions and millions years of evolution, these biological entities have developed sentience and forms of intelligence that reach far beyond our limited linear processing and intellectualized reality paradigms.
The Cetacean species, which includes all whales, dolphins and porpoises, have evolved sensory apparatus that makes even our most sophisticated instruments look like tinker-toys by comparison. For countless millennia these air-breathing mammals have had free reign on our water planet an abundance of food, and no predators for the most part. Their primary activities consist of playing, eating and copulating. Not bad, eh?
Think about it for a minute. Our aquatic cousins have lived in perfect harmony and balance for eons of time. Maybe we can learn something from them. The fact of the matter is we know next to nothing about this sublime species of mammal that chose to move back into the ocean nearly fifty million years ago.
So, you're asking, if they're so smart, how come they can't stop humans from killing and enslaving them? Why don't those stupid dolphins just leap out of the tuna nets instead of suffocating by the thousands? Why can't the gigantic blue whales, the largest animal ever to have existed on our planet, simply ram the smaller whaling ships instead of being whacked by exploding harpoons? Don't they know how to stay alive, for cripes sake? How can they be considered so intelligent? They don't even have thumbs!
Trio, ©John Malcolm SmithPerhaps we need to ask different questions.
Consider this. Cetaceans possess intelligence and consciousness on an entirely different level than humans. Their complex brains and stems are larger and more convoluted than ours. Neurophysiologists believe that indicates high intelligence. While humans have been unable to establish a way of speaking dolphin, some captive dolphins have learned over fifty human words!
Cetaceans evolved the ability to be completely aware of every moment of their existence through the biological imperative: Breathing. Yes, they are conscious breathers and have the capability of shutting down portions of their large brains in order to rest. They've developed the ability to be half asleep while the other half keeps an eye out and surfaces to take the next gulp of air. That means for the most part they are totally present and aware all the time.
Their intelligence seems to stem from the HeartMind. That is to say, they understand and react to the world around them from an intuitive based intelligence that has demonstrated itself to go far beyond what is considered simply instinctual. They've given us evidence of a high social order with vast and complex communication systems. They've demonstrated empathic and telepathic abilities as well as hints of intelligence beyond our capacity to even measure. It would make sense that they operate on an entirely different level of consciousness than humans.
Scientists, using their precious logic systems to measure intelligence, have thus far only tried to talk down to this species. If anything, cetaceans demonstrate what many believe is the next step in our human evolution. It is our task to raise our level of awareness before communication may be possible. The inherent tools we have for this are Intuition and Imagination, both of which have been sorely underestimated in our society.
There's clear evidence the cetaceans have been trying to help us. Many people who've been in the water with dolphins have reported an exhilaration of mind and a quickening of spirit unlike anything else. Many have felt entire perceptual shifts and healing sensations on the subtle levels of their energy bodies. It's believed that the dolphins quite naturally balance the energy centers, known as Chakras, and by doing so open up our expansive levels of consciousness.
Their influence goes beyond physical contact as well. Cetaceans have infiltrated our cultural matrix over the past half-century. We see them portrayed as having intelligence in popular movies like Free Willy and Castaway. One Yahoo.com commercial uses a talking dolphin in its TV advertisement, while other companies use dolphins and whales as a symbol of good will and majestic wonder to sell products and services.
Such synchronicities are not to be ignored. It indicates we are moving towards a new understanding of the world and ourselves. It indicates that we may now be ready to accept that another sentient race besides our own inhabits this water planet. In doing so, I believe it will help heal our wounded human condition of feeling isolated and abandoned by the Source of All That Is. Such healing will help us realize the interconnectivity of all life on this precious Planet Ocean.
We've been laboring in this birthing process for over fifty years and the cetaceans are undoubtedly acting as our midwives to this next level of thinking and being. They are showing us that higher consciousness is as available as the air we breathe. It's simply a matter to live and breathe consciously. And remember to smile while you're at it.
